This website presents the 10-second attitude shift, a self-help technique developed by Dr. Robert Gore as an easy method of improving your mood by observing and changing your attitude.  Dr. Gore has used tools such as these to help clients break out of patterns of helplessness, anger, fear and self-defeating behavior.  The 10-second attitude shift is based on well-established principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy with decades of research support, and it uses recent advances in psychological science.

Theory
Most bad moods are fueled by the thoughts we entertain.  By altering our thoughts, we can alter our moods.  Although some events are so intrinsically threatening that anyone would be somewhat upset by them, we can minimize our suffering by paying attention to our mental processes and keeping our thoughts from becoming unnecessarily morbid.

There are four basic mood states:  happy, sad, angry, or scared.  A web page here covers each of the unpleasant emotions.  Try it out, and see if it helps you to feel a little bit better.  Like any exercise, regular practice yields the best results.  To start, click on the word that describes your mood:
sad, angry, or scared

Mind precedes all mental states.  They are all mind-wrought.  If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts, happiness follows him like his never-departing shadow.
